Rocking the Wrecking

This could not come at a better time for me.
Today marks the beginning of Jamie Ridler's Next Chapter series of Wreck This Journal!

I am in the midst of the most stressful time of year, which is accompanied by a lot of work, a lot of pressure, a myriad commitments and responsibilities. This year is worse because I am also the head of the department which brings with it a whole other set of headaches. :)

What could be the most perfect antidote to all this but scribbling, crumpling, painting outside the lines? What could be more liberating than working outside the rules of how I have been raised, to be methodical, consistent, organized, conscientious, and neat?

That will go out the window with Wreck This Journal! And I for one cannot wait! Here will be one place where perfect does not exist. Where right is everything. And where fun is the objective!

And the even most delicious part?

I get to share this journey with a community of the the most amazing women (are there any men on this journey?) from all over the world. A warmer, more understanding, supportive, encouraging group of people than one can ever hope for. I get to share this liberating experience with them. How awesome is that?

How awesome is that?

Yay!!! I'm getting this total impression of you being a big delinquent at the end of the school year, singing School's Out for Summer and setting the journal on fire in the bathroom.

You rock it, Genie!

I am a little at a loss with what to do with my Wreck This Journal, so I am really looking forward to seeing what everyone does with it. I convinced my off line best buddy to join up, too.

I adore that photo - so perfect.

This experience really does feel like a gift already; I've got a new spring in my step! This definitely sounds like what you need to combat work stress and remember you are more than the sum of your stacks of paperwork!

This is what I've been doing for over a year with my quirky doodle drawings. Wrecking the rules. Just painting what and how I feel with no worrying about rules, and it has been so liberating. I have gained in confidence and am not nearly as uptight in my art as I used to be. Everything doesn't HAVE to be perfect and it is so much more fun this way.

Have fun with it! :)

I really think that "Wreck This Journal" should be required reading (is that the right word?) for every adult. We need to let our inner child play more often!

I always wanted to be part of a reading group, and even though I still want to be in one, the idea of a "wrecking group" seems more exciting at the moment!

Melita said...

can't wait to see how you "wreck" :)

Here we go again!

Nothing like a little wrecked abandon to bring out the fun in those little black books. Here's to a lot of fun as we wreck those journals!

Oooh! I absolutely love this part:
where perfect does not exist. Where right is everything. And where fun is the objective!
I want to put those words in a frame and hang them on my wall! Thank you!
