Child's Voice

Last night, we had our department Christmas gathering. We got together at one of our colleague's home. This year, for a present, we decided to share recipes and put them all together in our own recipe book. YUM!

The party was fun and filled with good food and children's laughter. We are blessed in our department with six beautiful children who are all under the age of 4, with 3 more on the way!

I really like my colleagues and the food was most delicious, but the children stole the show.

They are so beautiful, and smart, and alive. I see the promise of the future in their eyes. They engender laughter in your heart. They are infinite possibility. They are unconditional love and trust. They are walking, crawling, pooping, squealing, laughing, crying, awesome little miracles.

They are the true spirit of Christmas.

Like many, I am feeling out of sorts about this season. I will be spending some time with my adopted families, but I want to do something different this year. Instead of buying the children and adults in my life more presents that they can live without, I am gathering that money and making a donation either to the Children's Hospital or to a Homeless Children's Center.

This year, I will ask my goddaughter for one gift- to accompany me to a homeless shelter and volunteer.

This year, I want to collect a group of us and go caroling. I have never done that in my life, and it would be such a wonderful way to spread joy. Yes, even with my voice! :)

I want to show love with generosity of a different kind. I want to revive the spirit in Christmas. Sony and Nintendo, Mattel and Disney, The Gap and People's Jewelers will have to do without my contribution to their wealth this year.

This year I want to pay the human soul.

oh such a heart warming beautiful post genie!!! yes children do add so much meaning to holidays that we usually try to move away from... my daughter has made me approach this holiday season in such a different way and i am so thankful for her, she really is the biggest little teacher i have ever had! as a family we have pledged a handmade x-mas as well i am looking at things differently. instead of focusing on the materialism and craziness that frustrates me so, i am looking to the symbolism of the season and focusing on the beauty in my home. and this makes me happy.

thank you for another beautiful tarot card, such magical energy!!!

have a beautiful day
peace and blessings

Be careful - you may be starting your own revolution - living the spirit holiday! The commercial world will have apoplexy.

I'll gather my pompoms and sticks and cheer you on.

Bless the little children - they are the future.

Blessed Be.

How wonderful! You are really embracing the true meaning of the season. When you bring your inner child out to play....good things just happen! Ans caroling is so much fun!

Bravo!! That sounds like a beautiful way to breathe life back into the season. I'm feeling the need to Give as well: I'm getting together with some girlfriends and we're going to decide how to best pool our resources to make a meaningful contribution. The women's shelter is top on the list.

All the Best and Many Blissings!~*

I think those are all beautiful ways to live the holiday spirit this year and leave the materialism behind. I love that you are going to volunteer at a shelter, what a beautiful thing to do.

Thank you! I thought my husband's proposal was pretty darn beautiful too. LOL. Now we'll make more beautiful memories.

so many of us are feeling very similar about christmas. I find it dreadfully difficult because it is not even our Yule time... it is Midsummer for us, so in reality, we should not even be celebrating it at this time of year.

(by the way, when you visited the portal, did you click on the birdies back? It takes you to the Land of the Enchanted Forest...) xo

OH, I love this post and what it stands for, Genie! I'm so over the commercialism of Christmas today. I'm sure you will be in for a heart-warming experience at the homeless shelter.

Robyn, maybe that's why I have felt out of sorts at Christmas time for quite a few years now.

genie, a beautiful post and a wonderfully inspiring sentiment and reality we all should embrace....if Jesus still walked among us, I am fairly certain he would not be hanging out at the local mall spending all his money on emptiness ... I am very over christmas and it hasn't even begun...no trees and presents this year, at least that is where my head is today....who knows, I may change but what you said was so true and wishing more will go that way, including myself.

blessings and gratitude to you for your lovely little comments lately on my blog too, they are always appreciated. ;)

What a beautiful post! Those are wonderful ideas to celebrate the holiday. Love and generosity are what this time of year should be about. Christmas has become so commercialized.
