It's summer! I have a lot of time at my own personal disposal and I love it. This is a time I can drift in lazy dreams so I decided to make some changes instead!
I have started a daily work-out regimen. My gym offers free personal trainers, but I have not asked for one yet, mostly because I want to get myself ready for one. Personal trainers can be like boot camp sergeants, and I need to get myself into the gym addiction before I attempt a professional assault.
I have had the benefit of personal trainers in the past and have carried over their wise words. I have done research on the subject as well because I want to make the most of my work-out and not damage myself.
Here is the problem.
There are a lot of contradictions. It seems to be inevitable when "professionals" are involved. Some say do cardio before strength training. Others say do cardio after. Some say you have to do a minimum of 30 minutes a day, others say less, others say more.
I say this.
I have gone from inertia to activity, and that in itself will lead to results. I have decided to break up the 30 minutes to before and after my cardio. It's kind of like praying to all the gods, just to be sure. That is how determined I am.
This is not the first time I have joined a gym. I have had many memberships which after a month or two went unused and eventually were cancelled. This time, it's different.
I am wholeheartedly committed to seeing results no matter how long it takes. Thus, having allowed myself the time, I am not going to rush through it like a maniac. I will build my cardio slowly and see where it takes me. I will build my strength slowly. I will push myself, but not overdo it and therefore hurt myself. The biggest self-inflicted damage I have caused was giving up. This I will not do again.
I get up in the morning. Go through my morning routine, and then off to the gym I go. Five days a week. And I will do this til the day I die.
I noticed a woman at the gym today. She must have been in her sixties if not older. She got on the treadmill and stayed there throughout my cardio, my stretching, my weight training, my stretching and my second round of cardio. That was impressive, and inspiring. Watching her, gave me the incentive that no amount of experts or personal trainers can ever give. If I ever feel like faltering, all I have to do is think of that lady in her grey track pants, and her crisply ironed ( yes, ironed) white tee shirt walking briskly on that treadmill, and I will get into my unironed work-out clothes, come rain or sleet or snow or hail, and hit that gym mecca!
